Who loves whom, and who hates whom

A graph of how Dota 2 heroes feel about each other. Every score is based on the lines heroes say to each other in the game and on their lore.

Why

So that more people discover Dota 2 lore. People spend years digging into the history of Warhammer 40,000, The Elder Scrolls or Dark Souls, arguing about the God-Emperor of Mankind and hunting for meaning in item descriptions. Yet many skip Dota 2 lore, even though it is just as incredible: the shattered Mad Moon whose fragments became the Radiant and the Dire, ancient gods exiled from their own worlds, entire peoples and orders, old betrayals and grudges.

Much of this story is hidden in voice lines: heroes remember old scores, tease, threaten, grieve and confess to each other. This graph brings those lines together, so you can see who is tied to whom, and why.

The scale

Every relation has a score from −20 to +20.

−20 hatred0 indifference+20 love

Besides the number, each relation has a type (rivalry, contempt, respect, friendship and so on), a short explanation, and a confidence level: high, medium or low.

Relations have a direction

How Pudge feels about Axe and how Axe feels about Pudge are two separate scores. They often differ: one hero despises another, who barely notices. That asymmetry is the most interesting part.

That's why the graph has two modes: “How they feel →” shows what the chosen hero thinks of others, and “← How others feel” shows what others think of them.

How to read the graph

Where the data comes from

The information comes from two wikis run by Dota 2 fans:

Every lore fact in a hero's panel links to the page it was taken from. Thanks to the authors of both wikis: this project wouldn't exist without their work.

Scores are set by hand, and each one has evidence: specific lines or lore facts. No guesses from memory: if it isn't on the wiki, it isn't an argument. Lines from personas, arcanas, Dota Underlords, and unused or cut content are marked separately.

A non-commercial project

This is a fan project made out of love for the game. It is completely free and not monetized: there are no ads, subscriptions or paid access, and there never will be. Everything is available to everyone, forever.

А лор Dota 2 багато хто пропускає, хоча він не менш неймовірний: розколотий Божевільний Місяць, уламки якого стали Radiant і Dire, давні боги, вигнані з власних світів, цілі народи й ордени, старі зради й образи.

Значна частина цієї історії захована в репліках: герої пам'ятають старі рахунки, кепкують, погрожують, сумують і зізнаються одне одному. Цей граф збирає ці репліки докупи, щоб було видно, хто з ким і чому.

Шкала

Кожен зв'язок має оцінку від −20 до +20.

−20 ненависть0 байдужість+20 любов

Крім числа, кожен зв'язок має тип (суперництво, зневага, повага, дружба тощо), коротке пояснення та рівень впевненості: висока, середня або низька.

Відносини мають напрямок

Як Pudge ставиться до Axe і як Axe ставиться до Pudge — це дві окремі оцінки. Часто вони не збігаються: один герой зневажає іншого, а той навіть не помічає. Саме ця асиметрія найцікавіша.

Тому на графі є два режими: «Як він ставиться →» показує, що думає обраний герой про інших, а «← Як ставляться до нього» — що інші думають про нього.

Як читати граф

Звідки дані

Інформацію взято з двох вікі, які ведуть фанати Dota 2:

Під кожним фактом з лору в панелі героя є посилання на сторінку, з якої його взято. Дякуємо авторам обох вікі: без їхньої роботи цього проєкту не було б.

Оцінки ставляться вручну, і кожна має докази: конкретні репліки або факти з лору. Жодних здогадок «з голови» — якщо цього немає у вікі, це не аргумент. Репліки з персон, арканів, Dota Underlords, невикористані або вирізані з гри позначено окремо.
