Tidehunter vs Kunkka
Why Tidehunter hates Kunkka
Tidehunter's official biography admits it plainly: Kunkka became his nemesis "for reasons lost in the deepest trenches of the sea". But one place in this story is clear enough: the Trembling Isle.
Kunkka was the Admiral of the Claddish Navy, and for years he defended his home isles from the demons of the Cataract. At the second battle of the Trembling Isle the demons hurled all their carnivorous ships at the humans, and the Suicide-Mages of Cladd gave their lives to summon the ancestral spirits. The fleets were grinding each other down when Maelrawn the Tentacular rose from the depths: the god Tidehunter alone is loyal to, and the one he summoned. The tentacles dragged demon and human ships into a single maelstrom. The Cataract was left empty, and of Kunkka's fleet only a ghost ship remains, endlessly reliving the final seconds of its destruction. Whether the Admiral himself died that day nobody knows, not even Tidehunter.
Since then the feud has lived on in small things. The anchor Tidehunter carries was stolen from one of Kunkka's flagships, and he once ate one of the Admiral's boots. Every time they meet, Tidehunter seems surprised the man is still alive: "Kunkka, I thought I left you on the bottom of the sea". He dies with the same thought, too: "I'll have my vengeance yet, Kunkka!"
Kunkka, though, answers with anything but hatred. To him Tidehunter is the best enemy one could have: "Ah, Tidehunter, you cared enough to hate me. You can't buy that sort of love", "There went my soul mate". One wants revenge; the other would simply miss his rival.
In 2026 the story got an unexpected sequel. In the Maw of the Megalodon arcana, Tidehunter becomes a giant prehistoric shark and drags behind him not a dead fish but Kunkka's skeleton: "I already told you no, Kunkka. You can't have your body back". The lore never explained where this hatred came from, but Tidehunter, it seems, has already decided how it ended.
How Tidehunter feels about Kunkka
−12 hatred
The one who summoned Maelrawn upon both fleets still craves revenge: "Kunkka, I thought I left you on the bottom of the sea", "Die in slime, Admiral Mouthbreather!", and dying: "I'll have my vengeance yet, Kunkka!". None of the tenderness Kunkka has for him.

Hero biography
As The Admiral of the mighty Claddish Navy, Kunkka was charged with protecting the isles of his homeland when the demons of the Cataract made a concerted grab at the lands of men. After years of small sorties, and increasingly bold and devastating attacks, the demon fleet flung all its carnivorous ships at the Trembling Isle. Desperate, the Suicide-Mages of Cladd committed their ultimate rite, summoning a host of ancestral spirits to protect the fleet. Against the demons, this was just barely enough to turn the tide. As Kunkka watched the demons take his ships down one by one, he had the satisfaction of wearing away their fleet with his ancestral magic. But at the battle's peak, something in the clash of demons, men and atavistic spirits must have stirred a fourth power that had been slumbering in the depths. The waves rose up in towering spouts around the few remaining ships, and Maelrawn the Tentacular appeared amid the fray. His tendrils wove among the ships, drawing demon and human craft together, churning the water and wind into a raging chaos. What happened in the crucible of that storm, none may truly say. The Cataract roars off into the void, deserted by its former denizens. Kunkka is now The Admiral of but one ship, a ghostly rig which endlessly replays the final seconds of its destruction. Whether he died in that crash is anyone's guess. Not even Tidehunter, who summoned Maelrawn, knows for sure.
How Kunkka feels about Tidehunter
−3 rivalry
His sworn enemy from the battle near the Trembling Isle, but the hatred long ago became a love game: "Ah, Tidehunter, you were my better half", "you cared enough to hate me. You can't buy that sort of love", "He loved the sea, Tidehunter did, and for that I cannot hate him". Dying to him, he swears sincerely: "Tidehunter, you carrion-eating cuttlefish!"
